Internet Marketing and the Importance of Quality Content in the “I” “Me” World
As the world of Internet Marketing and Internet Business develops and evolves the importance of quality content never ceases. In fact, today, highly optimized quality content is extremely crucial in competiting with thousands if not millions or billions of other sites in all the different niches. The old saying “content is king” never loses it’s meaning as we dive in to 2010.
Today with web 2.0, social media and the ever-evolving complexity of search engines, providing quality content is extremely important as the bar raises higher and higher to unsurpassed amounts.
It’s simply not enough anymore to write spammy looking or keyword stuffed content or electronically generated content as this type of content as it quickly gets overlooked, unseen and sifted through the many web content and spam filters created to make the Internet a better place to learn and use.
User-Generated Content like forums, blogs, social networks and more are becoming more important to the Internet world and in return large search engines like Google quickly and generously reward them for being so useful to others.
Large search engines realize that places where people can share opinions and engage in feirce communication or even allow others to say what they are doing in real-time is what people want.
The “I” / “Me” Sydrome
Social networks like MySpace and Facebook along with sites like Twitter allow people to express themselves and fulfill that need to be important or different from others. It falls right on to the top of Maslow’s heirarchy of needs. People have a strong need to be important or atleast to be recognized as individuals. This is why more than ever you see much more “I”’s and “ME”’s than ever before. Along with “MY”space and “I”phone, you have the “I”robot, the “I”Home, the “I”dog and plenty other I’s and MY’s playing a huge part in today’s marketing world.
In addition to user-generated content, providing quality information is vital as many older marketing methods are becoming “invisible” to many web surfers and people learn after a while how to creatively dodge the proverbial “marketing bullet”. As at some point we are all sufferring from information overload and the need to sort the quality from the junk is vital to many people surfing the web everday – The search engines know this too, and as such, they will always cater to what the standard want… which isn’t blatent advertising.
So where does effective Internet Marketing exist in a society who want nothing more than to write about themselves, read about others or to get high quality information online?
We must be more strategic as ever as Internet Marketers and only provide the highest amount of quality content in everything we publish. More importantly, we also must provide information that can’t be / or is hard to find elsewhere. We have to focus on scarcity and value rather than blatent advertisement. In addition, we can also compete by marketing in ways that accomodate the “I / Me” and market in a way that people can feel special, important and significant. Internet Marketers must be able to “sell” the web visitor on how your product or service can benefit them, make them feel important or add to the quality of their life – even if that means somehow making them feel more important or helping them stand out in a crowd.
These Internet Marketing strategies have always been important and necessary, but now they are more important than ever and will become more so. The more people their are in the world, the more websites and content is on the web, the more important it will be to create better, helpful and significant content while catoring to the very specific “self actualization” needs of the consumer.
